Has it also annoyed you, that there are no hardcases for cruisers - let alone big ones?
That real big tours on a cruiser could only be undertaken with those tiny leather bags that will not protect your gear from rain?
Here is the rare (probably unique) opportunity to an affordable solution:
A rack that suits a cruiser to fit those indestructible, big und beautifully built cases by the renowned producer Hepco Becker.
2 Side Cases (new $650)
1 Top case (new $520), each with a volume of 40 litres.
The cases were bought and the rack adjusted only 2.5 years ago in 08/2009
The Rack (new $270) is custom made to fit a Honda Shadow VT 1100.This has cost another $1000, which you can safe.
Total in 2009: $2440 - now up for grabs for just $1000 for Ullyssians. Including U-flag on rack.
Please check measurements of the rack to make sure it fits your bike.
Chances are it fits cruisers like the Honda Shadows and Yamaha Stars, but you have to carefully check that yourself, please, as I can't guarantee that.

Measurements (screw to screw)
Distance between the 2 front lower arms: 34cm
Distance between the two front upper arms; 26 cm
Distance between the front lower und upper arm: 25 cm
Distance between the front upper and the middle fixing points : 30 cm
Distance between the two middle fixing points: 25 cm
Distance between the middle fixing points and the one back fixing point: 45 cm
Distance between the front arm and the back fixing point: 82 cm
2 of the 3 cases are in pristine condition, the third has very minor superficial scratches.
Of course they come with keys to lock the cases themselves and lock them to the bike.
You can't cruise and tour more comfortably and save.

Reason for selling: Bike is a write off due to an accident during which the cases were NOT on the bike and the rack was in no way involved (front damage "only") (And yes, thank you for asking, I, the rider, am ok too....)
