COVID 19 and Event Cancellations - Updates
  1. We received news that the Ulysses Club National which was to have been held at Lismore in May 2020 has been cancelled
  2. EDIT 10 May.  Change is now Slow!  NB   The committee has cancelled all branch sponsored rides and gatherings for now.
We hope to post an update once new rules are known on or after 11 May

I will add updates as information comes to hand   enlightened

  3. In the mean time we don't need opinion pieces added to this notice and please; let's not add stress to any person following advice with regard to "social distancing"..
  4. Please inform yourselves and as well as you can and do not jump to conclusions or belittle those trying to follow advice.enlightened

A Request from NatCom

Dear Members

Cancellation of the 2020 National Rally

Following the announcement of the 2020 National Rally, and as we work through the resulting administrative tasks we ask the members to NOT ring the National Administration Office this week.

Refunds will be processed in a timely manner but you will understand that this is in addition to existing workload and other tasks .relating to the cancellation.

Please bear with us and if you have any issues with this, please email Jen at president@ulysses.org.au

COVID 19 Issues and considerations

Members are advised to check the following website and stay informed before deciding whether or not to attend events:
https://www.health.gov.au/news/health-alerts/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov...

I do not wish to contribute to well meaning, but potentially ill informed comment

  1. I still intend to lead the Autumn Alpine Run this coming weekend.   I have been in contact with Howmans Gap and they intend to make lots more rooms available so that we're not bunking together in confined spaces.
  2. The branch committee  is considering options with regard to the need for a branch AGM gathering.  If you have any comment on that please contact Brian or a committee member.  Please note that there are no committee positions "up for contest" so to speak.

Social night still ON

Tomorrow nights social gathering is still ON.
As with any event in the current situation each member needs to make their own assessment as to whether their attendance is appropriate. If you are a risk to others (if you have potential symptoms of the virus) or have increased risk of suffering from the virus you should make your own decision to not attend.
I repeat the link containing the official government advice: https://www.health.gov.au/news/health-alerts/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-health-alert/what-you-need-to-know-about-coronavirus-covid-19

Cheers

Branch AGM

The proposed physical meeting for the 2020 branch Annual General Meeting at the Mount Waverley Community Centre Craft Room will now NOT go ahead.

Nominations for committee matched the positions so no elections were required and all the reporting functions will be carried out by electronic correspondence.  Hard copy will be made available where required.
physical meeting might be held later if a Special General Meeting is deemed necessary.
A ride has being organised so as not to waste a perfectly good Sunday, check the calendar on this website or the branch Facebook page.

Branch Rides Update

The committee is reviewing branch ride policies as I type.
We are seeking clarity rather than interpreting words said during press conferences
Clearly:

  1. Things are far from normal
  2. Even if a ride is advertised or proceeds, few will probably attendfrown
  3. If attending rides,  gatherings in bakeries cafes etc will not occur indecision
  4. Prepare to socially "distance" as advised indecision
  5. Make your selves aware of government advice and dictates enlightened
  6. Stay tuned  enlightened

Melbourne Bakehouse Restrictions

Information received from Melbourne Bakehouse yesterday:
"Thank you for your kind thoughts .

We have been advised that we can only  serve coffee and all our food items that we produce in take away containers only .
We are not allowed to have tables and chairs until further notice .

We have decided to keep our doors open to and provide  all we can to the community which will also keep our employees in work and earning a wage to be able to fulfill their commitments .
We thank you for your tremendous support and hope that the whole of the club membership stays safe and healthy ."

This clearly means we cannot gather at the Bakehouse (or anywhere really) for Saturday coffee gatherings.
You can still get "Take Aways"  there.

Camaraderie despite Physical Isolation

Things have changed greatly since this thread was started and isolation policies went to a whole new level at the end of March!
Keep yourselves informed and do your best to stay healthy

  • Whilst we do have to physically isolate and stay home and even the riding a motorbike jokes of two weeks ago now are now not acceptable;
  • we now still have many modern communication avenues available to avoid feeling socially isolated.  "FarceBook" and this website are two obvious examples of staying in touch.  If you want to share a tale do so:- write a blog, there is also a jokes page.
  • More importantly don't be afraid to pick up a phone and touch base with your fellow members.

Four Weeks!

It seems incredible that it is now four weeks since we embarked on the Alpine Run or Dave's ride to Maldon crying
Rules and guidelines certainly changed after that
I am no expert

  1. I note the number of cases from unidentified sources is climbing faster than the overall increase in cases which seems a strange way of putting things.  indecision
  2. Let's hope some measured relaxation of "Stay Home" directives can occur while we continue to contain the spread of this highly contagious virus.

Stay safe and well people and stay in touch with each other enlightened

I'm With Roger (metaphorically of course...)

I echo Roger's comment on the Bill Vann post/Club Objects comments.

I personally think the Branch Facebook page has been a fantastic resource in keeping us in touch with one another!!

PS - should I change my web persona to "Used To Sailbad, But Doesn't Sail At All Now"???

Changing Names

Be patient young fella,  I'm not doing much "Pan riding" at the moment  either crying
Hopefully, if they can keep a measurable brake on community transmission for more than a week, they will be able to start a measured loosening of the current stay at home guidelines.
I thought that John "Sam" Newman's stunt was lamentable.  No doubt he would have said he was out walking for exercise and carrying clubs for additional exercise if he had been taken to task for non essential travel no   However I do see golf, sailing, motorcycling etc as activities that can potentially be done very safely.  Let's just be patient
