President Deborah.

1.     Deborah asked Perry Stephens to take over the organisation of the bike expo, Jim and Perry to meet regarding display units. Perry will meet with Dale Maggs from the MRAA to discuss adjacent sites at the show.

2.     Regarding Mansfield, the Odyssey badges are to be organised by Jim Jasper, a decision was taken to use the new club logo in navy blue and white.

3.     Deborah has been in communication with Robin and Rex Salt at the Mansfield Caravan Park, during conversation the Salts kindly donated a prize for the Saturday dinner dance.

4.     Deborah put forward the idea of auctioning major items during the Odyssey, i.e. the heated waistcoat, some Harley Davidson memorabilia, and some Melbourne specific items. It was felt that due to the nature of the items, a better return, and members who would use the items could bid, rather than have them put up for general raffles.

Treasurer/Christmas party organiser Peter McRae

The Christmas party organisation is in full swing, baskets purchased, bottles of wine organised, Hall booked, entertainment booked, menu to be finalised.

Peter has urged the branch to go ahead with the plans to Incorporate.

A Motion was moved that the Melbourne branch apply for incorporation. Moved, Peter McCrae, seconded, Greg Rees. Motion carried.

Peter presented the accounts moved to be accepted, moved Peter McRae, seconded, Deborah Jasper, and carried.

Ride coordinator Brian Quintal

The ride calendar is almost full and will be ready in time for the next issue of the spare tyre.

Mention was made that there are a lot of members who are yet to lead a ride, these members will be “chased up” and asked to do the right thing.

A discussion was held regarding the orange band worn by the ride leader. It has been reported that the arm band was very hard to distinguish and has resulted in the ride leader being overtaken. It has been decided to issue the ride leader with a lime fluoro vest. This is to take effect from the next ride.

SpareTyre Mary Apps

Mary’s next issue is on track, should be a beauty! The volunteer ride report writers have been chased until they supply the report!

VSK Maurice Thirkell

The date for VSK has been set at the 19th of November. The organisation is on track, with volunteers for face painting, balloon blowing etc coming in thick and fast.

In the light of the incredible cost of fuel, the committee decided to provide fuel vouchers for those members who provide rides for the children.

General business:

1.       Raymond and Theo reported that a potential new website sponsor has been acquired, NorthSide Bodyworks, in Coburg.

2.       A new Ulysses FAQ web page has been designed by Raymond and has been approved by the committee. President Deborah has asked for the page to be included in the web site at a time to be announced.

3.       Theo informed the committee that he had obtained sponsorship from Jett (Aust) web site www.jett.us.com Jett have donated an electrically heated vest, and a discount of 40% for any purchases from his company by Melbourne Ulysses members. Well done Theo, just a note, Theo is probably the branches greatest sponsorship organiser of all time, he has single handedly raised close to $2.500-$3000 for the branch in the last three years!

4.       Julie Rock and Greg Rees have just returned from a trip to North America and whilst there, they purchased some Harley Davidson memorabilia and donated it to the club for raffle/auction at our High Country Odyssey. President Deborah offered a thankyou on behalf of the club.

5.       Two copies of Peter Thoemings (the Bear) latest book “On the road again” were received in the mail, a kind donation from Peter, organised through Raymond Herd, well done Raymond.

6.       Several months ago a special raffle was held at the Tower hotel to raise funds to purchase a bicycle for a needy child (a 3AW community function) $140 was raised! With only 18 people at the pub! David Apps had already paid for the bike, along with a personal donation from Mary and Dave (you ask them the details)

The balance of $60 was donated by the club and a cheque for $200 was paid to David Apps.

Well done and thank you to Dave and Mary for their efforts, a couple of kids at Christmas will have a big smile.

There being no further business the meeting was closed at 8.35 pm
